Funding options for speech therapy
The Communication Clinic offers speech pathology services via a range of funding options. These options include the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Medicare, Private Health insurance and third party insurance.
We also accept private paying clients who are not eligible for government funding or not covered by insurance. Feel free to contact our office to discuss your specific situation before attending your initial appointment.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a federal government program delivering funding and support for children and adults with a disability. As a registered NDIS provider we provide speech pathology services for agency, plan and self-managed NDIS participants. We’re registered to provide early intervention supports and are experienced in delivering early intervention services. We also support adult participants with communication challenges.
To access NDIS funding, you or your child must first be assessed against the access requirements to confirm eligibility. Find out how the NDIS works by visiting the NDIS website or by giving them a call on 1800 800 110.
Funding can also be accessed through Medicare, which administers several programs for children and adults with a disability. These programs help subsidise the cost of sessions for the assessment, therapy and treatment of communication challenges.
These programs include:
Helping Children With Autism (HCWA) program
Better Start for Children with Disability initiative
Chronic Disease Management plan
Medicare Follow-up Allied Health Services for People of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Descent
To access this funding you need to have a valid referral from a GP or an approved specialist setting out the Medicare code to be used for the session. You can find out more about Medicare funding by visiting their site or contacting them directly on 132 011.
Private Health Insurance
If you’re not eligible for government funding or subsidies you may be able to access funding assistance through your private health fund. Allied health services, such as speech pathology assessments and sessions, may be covered under your extras policy. Coverage and payment amounts will depend on the policy you hold and may be subject to waiting periods and other conditions.
If you wish to use your private health insurance to help subsidise the cost of therapy sessions, contact your health fund directly to confirm your eligibility.
We also provide services for children and adults covered by third party insurance, including workers compensation and comprehensive third party (CTP) insurance. Let us know if you’re covered by any sort of third party insurance when booking your appointment, so we can ensure the correct paperwork and information is provided to support your claim.
We provide services to children and adults in care arrangements including out of home care and aged care. If you’d like to access our services please provide your case manager with our details and they can contact us to complete a referral.
If you have any questions about any of these funding options, don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss your situation. We’re committed to giving you the access you deserve to quality speech therapy and helping you reduce the costs to make your life easier.
